Celebrating our Partnership with Providence of Maryland

We wanted to take some time to recognize a longtime Arundel Rivers partner, Providence of Maryland. This incredible nonprofit is on a mission to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to discover and live their best lives. While Providence provides a variety of services and programs for adults 21 and over, we’d like to focus on one in particular– their native plant wholesale program, which employs adults in Providence programs to grow an incredible variety of native plants and grasses in their local greenhouses.

Arundel Rivers frequently uses Providence-grown natives in our restoration and outreach projects, like the meadow at our Caffrey Run stream project, and we are excited to feature some of their plants and other programs at our upcoming Arundel Rivers on the Half Shell event on March 8. Beyond our work partnership, though, we are immensely grateful to know and collaborate with Providence’s incredible staff– from their incredible and knowledgeable project managers to the greenhouse workers who always make our day with their hard work, help, and kindness. Beyond our partnership, Providence’s greenhouse staff also work closely with partners like Maryland Department of Natural resources and Anne Arundel Community College, and has contributed to major projects like the rebuilding of Poplar Island.

Want to support Providence? Anyone representing an organization or business can place a wholesale order of 50 plants or more per species of natives, or 32 plants or more per vegetable type. Working on a smaller project? Providence has their next public sale event May 9-10, where you can visit their greenhouse and shop for native flowers by the plug, pot, or quart, browse hanging baskets, and grab some vegetable starters for your victory garden. To learn more about their programs, get involved, donate, or enroll a loved one in their programs, check out their website and their FAQ page.
