The 447th Maryland General Assembly officially began on January 8th, kicking off what promises to be an eventful 90-day session! This year, the spotlight is on one big story: the budget. With a significant deficit to address, your South, West, and Rhode Riverkeeper, along with our Executive Director, will be advocating tirelessly to protect critical environmental funding. These funds are essential for the restoration and protection of our local waterways and the communities that rely on them.
In addition to safeguarding vital funding, key priorities for Arundel Rivers' advocacy this session will focus on septic systems, resiliency efforts, environmental restoration, and best management practices.
We are especially excited to work on Governor Moore's "Bay Legacy Bill." This forward-thinking legislation will prioritize agricultural best management incentives, oyster aquaculture expansion, enhanced water quality monitoring, and more.
We’re eager to collaborate and ensure these efforts translate into meaningful impacts for our rivers. Stay tuned for more specific updates from Arundel Rivers as our priorities continue to develop and session unfolds.
