“The Marina” Living Shoreline
This living shoreline was funded by the owners of “The Marina” with help from a grant from Chesapeake Bay Trust and was constructed in 2014. The Federation provided plants and volunteers.
The existing stone rip rap was re-used for the stone breakwaters and was moved by hand by pre-release inmates as part of a job training initiative. Sand was then added behind the new breakwaters and shoreline grasses were planted.
High School students participating in a program led by the National Aquarium, grew shoreline grasses in their classroom and then came out and helped plant their grasses at the site. Anne Arundel County also donated some shoreline grasses to the project.
