During the summer, we monitor enterococcus bacteria levels at various community waterfront areas. We aim to provide timely public health information to participating communities and help identify times when it may be inadvisable to swim. Knowledge is key in our fight for healthier, clean waters. The season runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day and the 2024 season cost is $500. Contact Mairin ([email protected]) to sign up for samples to be taken at your community or home.
Our 2023 bacteria monitoring season has ended. If you are interested in volunteering to help us collect bacteria samples for the 2024 season, please contact Mairin ([email protected]) for more details. Volunteering for this program entails traveling to local sites, collecting water samples, and delivering them to the lab at Anne Arundel Community College. The samples need to be collected every Thursday morning.
Monitoring results can be tracked at The Swim Guide, which includes the health of waters monitored by Arundel Rivers as well as other organizations.
